Brad Pitt says comments About Jennifer were misinterpreted
Brad Pitt claimed comments he made in a magazine interview — in which he described life during his marriage to Jennifer Aniston as dull and “pathetic” — were misinterpreted, in a statement issued late Thursday.
In an interview with Parade magazine, due to be published in full Sunday, the Hollywood actor apparently opened up about his marriage to the former “Friends” star in which he said he had to “pretend the marriage was something it wasn’t.”
Speaking about his life in the 90s, Pitt, 47,said, “I started to get sick of myself sitting on a couch, holding a joint, hiding out. It started feeling pathetic. It became very clear to me that I was intent on trying to find a movie about an interesting life, but I wasn’t living an interesting life myself. I think that my marriage had something to do with it.”
Pitt, who is currently filming zombie movie “World War Z,” went on to praise his current partner Angelina Jolie, 36.
“One of the greatest, smartest things I ever did was give my kids Angie as their mom,” he said. “She is such a great mom. Oh, man, I’m so happy to have her.”
But after drawing criticism for being insensitive, Pitt’s representatives issued a response saying the actor’s words were misinterpreted.
In a statement to E! Online, released late Thursday night Los Angeles time, Pitt said, “It grieves me that this was interpreted this way. Jen is an incredibly giving, loving, and hilarious woman who remains my friend. It is an important relationship I value greatly.”
He added, “The point I was trying to make is not that Jen was dull, but that I was becoming dull to myself — and that, I am responsible for.”
Pitt and Aniston, 42, married in 2000 but they split five years later, soon after he starred in “Mr and Mrs Smith” alongside Jolie.
